AP reported last week that Old North Church, of Paul Revere fame, has continued its revolutionary ways by installing Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) to illuminate its ceiling vaults. This follows the installation of compact fluorescent lamps in the one if by land, two if by sea lanterns in the steeple two years ago.
The 18 strips of LEDs are installed in the crown moldings, shining up into the vaulted ceiling, highlighting its arches, while remaining hidden from sight. They replace the old incandescents, which lit the ceilings only dimly and generated enough heat to cause the ceiling paint to peel.
The LEDs were donated by Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions. Kudos to them!
