With global economies looking to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels, batteries capable of reliably and cost-effectively powering electric vehicles are essential.  Nanotechnology has become the enabler for such batteries to emerge but large scale manufacturing of nano-enabled batteries is required to bring costs down to competitive levels with conventional fuels.  This level of mass production can be accelerated with international standards for the measurement of important key control characteristics such as specific volume density and specific power density.  Manufacturers of nano-enabled lithium-ion batteries need to organize within the IEC TC 113 U.S. Technical Advisory Group to develop these standards.  For more information, contact Mike Leibowitz, TC 113 US TAG Secretary.
