Where leaders and ideas meet

Can it be that time of year already? Sure enough, registration is now open for Illuminations Weekend 2008, NEMA's popular annual meeting, where "leaders and ideas meet." The members-only event, scheduled for October 31-November 1, will feature keynoters Robert Ballard, discoverer of the Titanic, and Charlie Cook, one of Washington's most astute political analysts. Good timing for that discussion, considering the national elections follow just three days later.

As we did last year, NEMA will run concurrent seminars during the morning and afternoon. The morning sessions include an entertaining, fast-paced look at "Blogging for Executives" featuring one of Washington's best-known bloggers Pat Cleary, and a highly informative panel discussion on the rise of a new economic regulatory era in the U.S. and in Europe. The afternoon sessions should prove just as popular, with a forum on investment tips led by two of Wall Street's most knowledgeable execs, and a flavorful workshop that will instruct attendees to "Cook at Home Like an Executive Chef."

The event concludes with our Illuminations Dinner the evening of November 1, featuring the prestigious Falk Award (recent winners have included Lloyd Trotter of GE and Sandy Culter of Eaton), and entertainment from guitar-strumming political humorist Dave Werner, once named the funniest lawyer in Washington. (Okay, so how many funny lawyers could there actually be in D.C.?)

If you're a NEMA member, don't hesitate too long -- early-bird registration provides a significant discount. And early-bird group registration provides companies with five or more registrants an even better deal! Visit www.nema.org/illuminations for more information.
