2007…..2012……2017 WHERE DID THE TIME GO??
Interestingly enough, we all tend to put things off until the last minute. Individuals do this, companies do this and even nations do this. There are two CANENA developed standards that have been published for more than 18 months. To date however, no products have been evaluated to these new standards. Those companies that presently manufacture certain Industrial Control Equipment to UL 508 need to be reminded that the transition period for compliance from the UL 508 to the newly published 2007 UL 60947-1 and UL 60947-4-1 standards (as identified below) is slowly but steadily slipping away.UL Standard for Safety for Low-Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear - Part 1: General rules, UL 60947-1 Third Edition, Dated January 26, 2007.UL Standard for Safety for Low-Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear - Part 4-1: Contactors and Motor-starters - Electromechanical contactors and motor-starters, UL 60947-4-1A Second edition, Dated January 26, 2007.The above standards are complimentary to one another, meaning to comply with the end product standard UL 60947-1-4A you must also comply with the General Rules standard UL 60947-1.The effective date for the UL Standard for Safety for Low-Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear - Part 1: General rules, UL 60947-1 Third Edition, was January 26, 2007. Between January 26, 2007 and January 26, 2012, new product submittals to UL may be evaluated under the UL 60947-4-1A standard or, if requested in writing, evaluated under UL 508.Between January 26, 2012 and January 26, 2017, all new product submittals will be evaluated to the UL 60947-4-1A standard. Revisions to existing UL 508 products will be evaluated to this standard unless the manufacturer specifically requests that the products be evaluated to the superseded requirements of UL 508.As of January 26, 2017, all products Listed or Recognized by UL must comply with the requirements in the UL 60947-4-1A standard.
TIME FLIES BY!! Please plan the review and scheduling of your affected products accordingly.
