Obama launches the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership to create high-tech jobs and alleviate energy and manufacturing costs

Last Friday, President Obama launched the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP) to encourage industry, universities, and the federal government to invest in emerging technologies that will create high-quality manufacturing jobs. The plan will invest more than $500 million to begin this effort.

One area of interest, particularly for the electroindustry, is that the Department of Energy will begin working to develop manufacturing processes and materials to help alleviate energy and manufacturing costs for companies.

The Energy Efficiency Coalition for Industry of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) is a unique alliance of companies whose expertise is reducing industrial facilities’ energy consumption through the use of sensors and controls.  These projects can often be planned and implemented at no upfront cost to the industrial customer through the use of an energy savings performance contract.  Partnering with universities and the federal government promises to provide greater opportunity for deployment of these technologies, deliver significant energy savings, and transform American manufacturing.
