How much would you pay for a full cellphone charge minutes before boarding a cross-country flight? Congressional staff and industry stakeholders fielded this and other questions about the value of electricity at the September grid modernization briefing hosted by NEMA, in coordination with the Grid Innovation Caucus, the GridWise Alliance, and the Edison Foundation Institute for Electric Innovation.
Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-CA) kicked off the briefing with remarks about the need to invest in modern electrical infrastructure to ensure a more resilient, secure, and sustainable future. A panel of experts touched on a variety of subjects, from technological innovation to new utility regulatory and business models. The panel included Lisa Wood, executive director at the Edison Foundation Institute for Electric Innovation; Gary Rackliffe, vice president of smart grids at ABB Inc.; and Scott Prochazka, president and CEO at CenterPoint Energy.
NEMA actively supports the Grid Innovation Caucus, which educates congressional staff about the importance of the electric grid and promotes policies that will support a flexible, reliable, and sustainable power system.
